Unkind inner dialogue can hold us back from having the life we want.
When we have a negative mindset, it shows up in our overall health, how we fall short in meeting our goals, and our struggle to live a life full of purpose and meaning.
The first step to changing your inner dialog is to become aware of the thoughts that hold you back. Learn to talk to yourself in an empowering and encouraging way: quote scripture, develop mantras, and repeat these verses and mantras to renew your mind and rewire the programming in your brain.
Try saying these phrases out loud the next time you feel stuck
What if the opposite is true?
Our brains like to tell us scary stories. It is the brain's way of trying to protect us, but sometimes we get caught in a downpour of “what ifs.”
One tool you can use is to ask yourself "What if the opposite is true?" Asking this question helps your brain shift to the other side of the spectrum. In most circumstances, a favorable outcome is just as likely as a negative one.
Michel de Montaigne said: "My life has been filled with terrible misfortune; most of which never happened.” According to one study, as much as 85% of the things we worry about never happen.
Worry and stress can damage your mental health but also your physical health. stress is linked to
Shrinking brain mass
Decreasing IQ
Heart disease
Premature aging
To cut down on stress, try using your imagination for good, not evil.
I don’t break promises to myself.
I am a firm believer in letting my “yes” be “yes,” and my “no” be “no.”
If I give my word about something, I keep it, including to myself.
Many of us will do whatever it takes not to disappoint others with broken promises, but we break them to ourselves all the time.
When I think I can’t do something, I tell myself, "I don’t break promises to myself." This mantra helps me stay in self-integrity and accomplish my goals.
Remember why you started.
I can’t ever stress this enough. The reason we quit, give up and let our dreams disappear is because we forget our “whys.” Before I make any changes in my business or my life, I take time to ask myself, "Why am I choosing to do this?"
I consider the cost of my time my money mental energy. But most importantly, I must love my “Why.” I write it down and keep it someplace I can see it every day.
When we genuinely like our “why” it becomes the momentum, we need when challenges arise.
